The objective of these courses is the practical preparation of the student for ministry in the church local and universal. Emphasis is laid on developing communication skills, leadership skills, and an effective philosophy of ministry.

CM101 Christian Life Principles 4 units

What does it mean to be a new covenant believer? How do Christians pursue intimacy with Jesus Christ? What are the disciplines necessary for consistent growth in the life of a believer? Who or what are the enemies that seek to discourage the Christian? What is the nature of spiritual warfare? How does a Christian balance the demands of a relationship to God, church, family, work, and world? By means of examining the Scriptures, additional readings, and historical models, these kinds of questions will shape the structure of this class as we seek to discover some of the indispensable essentials for growth in the Christian life.

CM102 Introduction to Ministry 4 units

The theology, philosophy, and practical life of the minister is presented. Different models of ministry are examined.

CM103 Survey of Church History 4 units

Church history from Pentecost to the present. Emphasis is placed upon the development of doctrine, organization, and the Roman Catholic Church. The place and importance of monasticism, scholasticism, mysticism, the Renaissance, the causes and development of the Reformation, Protestant denominations, and English and American Christianity are also explored. Opportunity will be provided for each student to familiarize himself with the history and polity of his/her church.

CM104 Evangelism/Discipleship 4 units

An investigation of the New Testament strategy for obeying the Great Commission. A plan for effectively sharing the gospel through an evangelistic lifestyle is developed first. Then a strategy for teaching new converts to obey Christ’s commands is developed.

CM201 Effective Bible Teaching 4 units

A practical survey of the methodology of effective and creative Bible teaching. This course is designed for teaching novices who desire to understand the basics of teaching skills, as well as for experienced teachers who wish to sharpen their skills in a classroom environment. Much time will be spent observing and evaluating known Bible teachers, and in developing the student's own style. Classroom opportunities to teach will also be provided. This class aims to give teachers a renewed enthusiasm for their teaching gift and ministry.

CM202 Homiletics 4 units

The student is instructed in the relationship between the life and ministry of the elder and pastor/teacher. Special emphasis will be placed on the communication skills needed for that position. This will include the matter of sources for sermon materials, the construction of outlines and development and delivery of sermons. (Open to men only; women take CM204 instead.)

CM203 Biblical Leadership 4 units

In this course the student examines the purpose, goals, and priorities of the leader in the local church. The personal life of the leader, his relationship to God, his relationships with the flock and with other leaders are investigated.

CM204 Women in Ministry 2 units

This course addresses the challenge, importance, and unique ministry opportunities presented to women in the Body of Christ. The student is also instructed in the relationship between the life and ministry of the elder and pastor/teacher, and the unique supporting role of his wife and life partner.

CM205 Cross Cultural Commnuication 4 units

This course addresses the whole spectrum of cross-cultural communication within the framework of balanced biblical boundaries and helps the student to develop a consistent, cohesive, Christo-centric cultural consciousness in the ministry of the gospel and personal relationships.

CM206 Spirit-Empowered Preaching 4 units

The goal of this course is to discover the biblical model of Spirit-empowered preaching. The class will investigate the theology, method, subject-matter and prerequisites of Spirit-empowered preaching.

CM301 Biblical Counseling 4 units

This course will begin to assist you in answering the following difficult questions:  Why do people do the things they do?  How does lasting change take place in a person's life?  How can God use me in someone's life to help them grow in grace and holiness?  The Gospel of Jesus Christ that grants forgiveness from all sins and promises a future hope in eternity with Christ touches the deepest levels of our lives today.  A lifestyle of repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ empowers God's people to move from patterns of sin, idolatry and false worship to a life that glorifies God through change that sees them become increasingly conformed to Christ-likeness.

CM302 Problems & Procedures in Biblical Counseling 4 units

Prerequisite: CM301 or equivalent (check with registrar for details).
This couse will give practical and detailed instruction on how to apply the principles of Biblical counseling to specific life problems that counselors face today. Idols of the heart, Premarital counseling, marriage and family issues, eating disorders, anxiety, discouragement and depression, Sexual sin, child discipline, etc.

CM303 Pastoral Marriage Counseling

This course on marriage counseling in a pastoral setting is based on a biblical and theological foundation for the conduct of pastoral counseling. It is designed to build fundamental counseling skills needed to work with engaged and married couples. Prerequisite: Completion of ST101 Bibliology and ST 104 Soteriology. If the student has not completed these courses he or she must get special permission to take this course. Please check with the registrar.
